Our mission is to provide a safe and inclusive environment for individuals of all skill levels to challenge themselves and improve their physical and mental well-being through the sport of rock climbing. We strive to offer top-notch facilities, equipment, and instruction, as well as a supportive and passionate community for climbers to connect with.
Meet the Family

President, Head Routesetter, Climbing Coach
Tye Mitchell
Tye Mitchell is an accomplished USAC routesetter and coach, balancing his time between setting, coaching, climbing, and savoring a post-climb pint. He has a deep love for outdoor climbing and can often be found at climbing destinations such as the New River Gorge, Chattanooga, and Moore's Wall. Tye also enjoys establishing new boulders in the Blue Ridge Parkway area. He is a highly skilled climbing instructor whose commitment motivates his students to go beyond their boundaries and take on new challenges. His expertise in climbing technique and strategy is complemented by his passion for the sport and his commitment to his students' growth and success. Outside of climbing, he enjoys mountain biking and backpacking. Despite his climbing addiction, Tye never misses a chance for a good night's sleep, often opting for the comfort of his Crosstrek.

Gary Mitchell
Gary Mitchell is a successful entrepreneur known for delivering quality products and building strong relationships with customers. With nearly two decades of experience as a business owner, Gary is a firm believer in the value of hard work and the power of community. He is a passionate lover of nature and an outspoken advocate for the great outdoors, dedicating himself to preserving and promoting our natural spaces for generations to come. This love of nature has been passed down to Gary's four sons, who share their father's passion for adventure and exploration. Whether hiking, camping, or simply exploring the great outdoors, the Mitchell family is always on the move, seeking out new challenges and experiences. But, despite their many adventures, the Mitchells never lose sight of the importance of family and community, embodying the same values that have guided Gary's success in business and in life.

Mikel Mayo-Pitts
Mikel is a seasoned climber and outdoor enthusiast, having honed his skills over eight years of dedicated practice. He graduated from Radford University with a degree in outdoor recreation and leadership, and has since spent six years working as a professional guide and outdoor program director. In addition to his impressive experience, Mikel holds active certifications as a Single Pitch Instructor and Wilderness First Responder, reflecting his commitment to safety and excellence in the field. When he's not leading expeditions or scaling peaks, Mikel channels his creativity into route setting, relishing the challenge of crafting new climbs that push himself and others to their limits. With a lifelong dream of working full-time in a climbing gym, Mikel is eager to share his passion and expertise with fellow climbers of all levels.

Riley Mitchell
Riley is a dynamic individual whose passions are as diverse as they are exhilarating. As a Lynchburg University alumna, Riley has honed his skills in education, and with a background as a student athlete, he has the expertise and drive to connect with kids. Riley's unique approach to teaching is rooted in his belief that taking calculated risks is an essential part of growth and development. Riley has carved out a unique niche for himself, one that is defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence and a commitment to inspiring the next generation of adventurers and trailblazers. His approach is not just about teaching children how to take risks; it's about showing them how to embrace life with all its challenges and opportunities, and to do so with courage, grace, and an unbridled sense of adventure.
